Online street art specialists Hang-Up Pictures have partnered up with the creative gurus at advertising agency Wieden + Kennedy to produce what looks to be quite a rather special art exhibition entitled ‘Cut Out and Keep’.

The show is the debut solo show of Alex Daw, a multi-talented contemporary artist, at the agency’s new space ‘The Cole’ situated in The Old Truman Brewery in London’s Brick Lane area. The exhibition opens on the 26th November and will run until Sunday 29th November.

Hang Up is an online gallery that represents young emerging talent  from across the globe and deals in an eclectic range of contemporary,  graffiti and street art.  They specialise in seeking out hard-to-find limited edition prints and originals from the leading artists in this scene.

Ever since seeing the artists exclusive altered POP magazines made from carving into each page by hand we have always been following his work with interest. In this exhibition he brings his warped view of the world of fashion, status and advertising via his ongoing series of compelling contemporary mementos of modern life.  He utilises anything at his disposal - he cuts and paints on a number of surfaces. Culling fragments of pop culture, fashion and art history, Daws’ obsessive nature to critique and de-construct objects, results in cut up magazines, and paintings on canvas and glass pieces.

The resulting work is a series of sexy, glossy objects, at once mocking, mimicking and worshipping the cult society they are idolising. He is also satirising the clinical, surgical lengths to which a growing number of celebrities take their obsessive compulsion to alter their physical self.

The ‘Cut Out & Keep’ exhibition will be shown in the large, flexible auditorium of Wieden and Kennedy that was designed to host a range of events from intimate one-to-one meetings to large-scale music performances for up to 200 people.

Alongside some amazing artwork there’ll be lot’s to drink and eat. Underground food connoisseur  and blogger Fun Thyme will be catering the event and Havana Club are sponsoring the show - there’s talk of enough rum on-site to create 400 cocktails, so we need help getting through it please…
