JR who describes himself , a hybrid “photograffeur”, pastes enormous black-and-white
photographic canvases in various urban environments. In Britain, his best-
known work is certainly
Ladj Ly By— a photograph that captures all the tensions
of the 2004 Paris suburb riots.
The images below are from his latest project all in Vevey, Switzerland, as part of the
Images Festival, using pictures taken from the
Musée de l'Elysée.
The idea is to take works of other famous photographers and install them
somewhere different and unexpected, allowing them to take new meaning
when discovered by passers by.
