Alex Daw

28-Oct-2009
A multi talented contemporary artist, Utilising anything at his disposal, Daw cuts and paints on a number of surfaces. Culled Fragments of news, pop culture, art history, sci -fi and portraiture are selected, injected and dissected to provide a starting point for painting.

Originally from Burnley, Alex gained a first class degree in Fine Art at The University Of Central Lancashire, and then moved to London the second he graduated.

After declining an offer of a postgraduate course at Chelsea School Of Art, Alex concentrated on his art. However he soon realised he had to make money to survive in London and pay for his paint! He fell into the role of a glamour photographer (having never previously used a camera!). He photographed naked girls, nudes more akin to aspiring Jordans than Kate Moss look-alikes, which was an ironic twist as his back catalogue of work had a similar thematic content to his  photographs!  Culling such status obsessed celebrities with consistent nods to pop culture, Daws’ works fizz with sex, sass and subtle undertones of darkness.

Becoming more de-sensitised to sex and  women and more increasingly confused by his own path, Alex was slowly losing his artistic stripes. This was  a brave move – Alex abandoned his potential life of debauchery and got back to creating art work. He has had work exhibited in The National Gallery, has had extensive shows throughout the north of England as well as in London. Daw has an established client base in the UK and the US including three major 'A List' celebrities.

Daw is an extremely talented young artist. A rising star with an extremely creative mind, unconventional techniques and a reassuringly fresh approach to his subject matter.
